CONDUCT BUREAU Seeks Police Support Against Corruption, Social Vices

Assistant inspector-general (AIG) of Police for Zone 10 Headquarters, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has met with the state director of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Malam Abubakar Usman Tadurga, and his entourage at the Zone 10 Headquarters in Sokoto.

In a statement issued yesterday by ASP Abdallah Faruk Ambursa, zonal police spokesperson, he quoted Tadurga as saying that “the visit was to familiarise the Bureau with Zone 10 and enhance collaboration between the Nigeria Police and the workforce of the Code of Conduct Bureau.”

Tadurga explained that the CCB derived its legal powers directly from the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

He noted that the CCB is a frontline anti-corruption agency in Nigeria, established to curb graft, enforce public accountability, and ensure that government business adheres to high moral standards.

The CCB chief solicited the support of the police to enforce the Bureau’s constitutional mandates, including the protection and forfeiture of seized assets, the arrest and investigation of public ethics violations, and the submission of asset declarations.

During the interactive session, the State Director stated that the agency is working to establish an online portal to facilitate the delivery of its services.

In his response, AIG Grimah warmly welcomed the State Director. He emphasized the importance of enforcing laws against corruption and other vices in the community and society at large, and pledged to prosecute anyone found wanting with strictness.

The AIG further assured the Bureau of his full support at both the zonal and command levels in the fight against corruption and other vices.

Also present at the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, urged the Code of Conduct Bureau to put in place mechanisms to educate and sensitise individuals and organizations on the consequences of corrupt practices, the requirements for asset declaration, and the implications of double remuneration, among others.

In conclusion, the AIG reaffirmed Zone 10’s commitment to continuous inter-agency cooperation and collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau.
