Zamfara State Government, under the leadership of Governor Lawal, remains fully committed to working closely with the Federal Government, the World Bank, and our development partners to ensure the effective implementation of these initiatives in line with the administration’s Rescue Agenda.

Zamfara State Ministry of Health started refresher training on Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) aimed at enhancing the capacity of healthcare workers to provide quality maternal and newborn healthcare services across the state.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, said the training forms part of the state government’s commitment to reducing maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality through continuous capacity building for health professionals.

Dr Maradun explained that the training covers key areas including CEmONC course objectives and Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) signal functions, antenatal care (ANC) history taking and rapid clinical assessment.

Other areas include birth preparedness and complication readiness, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, anaemia in pregnancy, bleeding in late pregnancy, patient-centred care, and interpersonal communication.

She commended the participants for their dedication to improving healthcare delivery and urged them to remain focused throughout the training to fully benefit from the sessions.

The commissioner highlighted the achievements of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration in revitalising the state’s healthcare system through investments in health infrastructure, the provision of modern medical equipment, and continuous training of healthcare personnel.

She also disclosed that the state government is undertaking the ongoing recruitment of additional healthcare workers to fill critical staffing gaps in health facilities across Zamfara State.

Dr. Maradun further directed all participants to organise step-down training in their respective health facilities after the workshop to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired are shared with other healthcare workers, thereby strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare services across the state.
