Former  Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has distanced himself from a letter currently circulating on social media, describing it as a forgery designed to mislead the public.

This was isclosed in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the El-Rufai family by his son, Bello El-Rufai. According to him, the  document, titled:“Urgent Message,” and purportedly dated July 14, 2026, was fake and did not originate from the former minister.

According to the statement, the letter was allegedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The former Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), former Minister of the Federal Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled Urgent Message,” the statement read.

It added that “the spurious letter, purportedly dated 14 July 2026 and addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, should be disregarded as the shabby fake that it is.”

The family further dismissed the authenticity of the document, pointing to what it described as its poor language and handwriting.

“Neither the poor content nor the handwriting have anything to do with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai,” the statement said.

The statement alleged that the circulation of the letter was a deliberate attempt by political opponents to create confusion and division.

“The fake letter shows another resort to desperation by Mallam’s traducers who seek to sow confusion and division. Their attempt at politics by fakery should be dismissed and condemned,” it stated.

Describing the alleged forgery as an example of “primitive politics,” the family added, “It is an instance of the most primitive politics and its sponsors should be ashamed of themselves.”

The alleged fake letter has circulated widely across social media platforms in recent days, prompting the family’s public disclaimer. Neither the ADC leadership nor any other relevant party had issued an official response as of the time of filing this report.
