Manchester City midfielder Rodri has reportedly agreed personal terms with Real Madrid as negotiations over a potential move to the Spanish giants gather pace.
The 30-year-old Spain international has emerged as one of the key figures in Manchester City’s most successful era since joining the club from Atlético Madrid for a reported £62.6 million in 2019.
Rodri has made close to 300 appearances for City and established himself as one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders, playing a central role in the club’s domestic and European successes.
However, his future at the Etihad Stadium is now increasingly uncertain, with his current contract running until the summer of 2027.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Rodri has already reached an agreement with Real Madrid over personal terms and is now waiting for the two clubs to settle on a transfer fee.
Real Madrid’s interest in the midfielder is understood to have been longstanding, although the Spanish club had previously been deterred by Manchester City’s valuation of their star player.
With Rodri entering the final two years of his contract, Real Madrid are believed to be hopeful of negotiating a lower fee for the midfielder.
The proposed move would represent a significant change for both Rodri and City, given the Spaniard’s importance to the club since his arrival six years ago.
Rodri’s departure would also leave Manchester City facing a major decision over how to restructure their midfield as they prepare for another season.
The Spanish international has been widely regarded as one of the most influential players in City’s midfield, combining his defensive discipline with his ability to control possession and contribute goals.
For Real Madrid, meanwhile, the potential arrival of Rodri would provide another world-class option in the middle of the pitch and further strengthen their squad.
The transfer, however, remains dependent on Manchester City and Real Madrid reaching an agreement over the player’s fee.
Until that happens, Rodri remains a Manchester City player, although his reported agreement on personal terms has brought a move to the Bernabéu a significant step closer.
