Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has joined Chilean giants Colo-Colo weeks after playing a starring role in his country’s historic debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Colo-Colo announced on Friday that the 40-year-old goalkeeper, whose real name is Josimar Dias, had joined the club on a reported 18-month contract as a free agent.

The Chilean club welcomed the experienced goalkeeper on social media, signalling the start of a new chapter in his career following his impressive World Cup campaign.

Vozinha became one of the breakout stars of Cape Verde’s historic first appearance at the World Cup, helping the African nation reach the Round of 32.

He immediately attracted international attention during Cape Verde’s opening match against eventual champions Spain.

The veteran goalkeeper produced seven saves in the encounter, helping his side secure a draw and becoming the oldest goalkeeper to record a clean sheet on his World Cup debut.

His performance against Spain helped transform him into a global figure, with his social media following experiencing an extraordinary surge during the tournament.

Before the World Cup, Vozinha reportedly had around 50,000 followers on Instagram. That figure subsequently rose dramatically, reaching almost 14 million before climbing further to about 29.5 million by Saturday morning.

His move to Colo-Colo now gives him the opportunity to continue his career at one of South America’s most decorated clubs.

Founded in 1925, Colo-Colo are one of Chile’s most successful sides, having won the country’s top-flight league 34 times and the Copa Chile 14 times. They have also lifted the Copa Libertadores once.

Vozinha’s arrival adds considerable experience to the squad, with the goalkeeper bringing the profile and confidence gained from Cape Verde’s historic World Cup campaign.

For the Cape Verde international, the move also marks a fresh stage in a career that has received renewed global attention following his performances on football’s biggest stage.
