Nasarawa Governor Splashes N45 Million On Women’s FA Cup Champions

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has approved a ₦45 million cash reward for the Nasarawa Amazons following their dramatic penalty-shootout victory over Heartland Queens in the 2026 Women’s Federation Cup final.

The governor announced the financial package on Friday during a reception for the victorious team at the Government House in Lafia, praising the players and officials for their resilience, discipline and determination throughout the competition.

Under the reward structure, ₦25 million will go to the playing squad, while ₦15 million has been allocated to the technical and managerial team. The remaining ₦5 million is earmarked for the team’s supporters’ club in recognition of their backing and mobilisation throughout the campaign.

The Amazons secured the coveted trophy in Asaba after a tense final against Owerri-based Heartland Queens ended 1-1 after regulation time.

The Nasarawa side held their nerve in the ensuing penalty shoot-out, eventually prevailing 6-5 to claim the Women’s Federation Cup title and end a four-year wait for major silverware.

Sule described the triumph as more than a sporting achievement, saying the team had demonstrated qualities capable of inspiring and uniting the people of Nasarawa State.

He commended the players for their commitment and professionalism, while also acknowledging the contributions of the coaching crew, management and supporters who played important roles in the team’s successful campaign.

The reward, according to the state government, is intended to recognise the team’s achievement and encourage continued investment in women’s football and sports development across the state.

The victory represents a significant boost for women’s football in Nasarawa and is expected to strengthen the profile of the Amazons as one of the state’s leading sporting institutions.
