Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived in Rabat with one clear objective: to conquer Africa once again and add another chapter to their remarkable history in women’s football.

The 10-time African champions touched down in Morocco ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will begin their campaign on Tuesday with hopes of reclaiming the continental crown and extending their record as the most successful team in the competition.

The Falcons’ arrival in the Moroccan capital was as much a celebration of Nigerian identity as it was a sporting statement.

The players and officials made a colourful appearance in elegant green-and-white flowing traditional outfits, complemented by matching head ties, proudly displaying the country’s rich cultural heritage as they stepped into the tournament atmosphere.

The delegation travelled to Rabat from Casablanca, where the team had spent 10 days in camp putting the finishing touches to their preparations for the demanding continental championship.

All 25 invited players made the journey, giving head coach and his technical crew a full squad to work with as Nigeria begins the final stage of its quest for another African title.

The Super Falcons enter the tournament with confidence after rounding off their preparations with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania in an international friendly.

The result offered Nigeria a timely boost and allowed the team to head into the competition on a winning note, although the Falcons will know that the intensity of a major tournament will be significantly different from a preparatory fixture.

Nigeria’s opening Group C assignment will come against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, in Rabat.

The encounter will mark Malawi’s debut at the tournament, but the Falcons will be taking nothing for granted as they begin their pursuit of an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title.

The Nigerians will then face Zambia on August 1 in what promises to be a major test of their credentials before completing their group-stage campaign against Egypt on August 5.

With all their Group C matches scheduled to take place in Rabat, the Falcons will have the advantage of remaining in familiar surroundings throughout the first phase of the competition.

But beyond the battle for continental supremacy, Nigeria’s campaign carries an additional incentive.

The top four teams at the tournament will earn automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, making every match potentially decisive for the teams harbouring ambitions of reaching the global showpiece.

For Nigeria, qualification for the World Cup is expected to be a major target, but the immediate priority remains restoring the Super Falcons to the summit of African women’s football.

The team’s record speaks for itself.

Nigeria have dominated the history of the WAFCON, collecting 10 titles and establishing a level of success that has made the Super Falcons synonymous with the continental championship.

Yet, for a side accustomed to winning, past glory offers little protection in a tournament where the margins between victory and disappointment can be razor-thin.

The Falcons will therefore have to combine their wealth of experience with the energy of a squad determined to create its own legacy.

Their recent preparations have provided encouraging signs. The 2-1 win over Tanzania demonstrated that the team can produce results under pressure, while the 10-day camp in Casablanca gave the players and coaching staff an opportunity to sharpen their tactical approach and build cohesion before the competition began.

The challenge now is to transfer that preparation to the tournament stage.

Malawi will provide the first examination, with Zambia likely to present an even sterner challenge before Egypt completes Nigeria’s group-stage schedule.

The Falcons are among the leading contenders for the title, but they will be aware that Africa’s women’s game continues to grow rapidly, with traditional powerhouses facing increasingly competitive opposition.

Nigeria’s players will therefore have to approach every fixture with the same intensity and discipline if they are to avoid an early setback.

For the Super Falcons, however, the message is clear: they have not travelled to Morocco merely to participate.

They have arrived in Rabat as 10-time champions, carrying the weight of history and the expectations of millions of Nigerians.

The ultimate prize is another African title — an 11th crown that would further cement Nigeria’s extraordinary dominance of the women’s game on the continent.

And with World Cup qualification also at stake, the Falcons have even more reason to rise to the occasion.

From their striking green-and-white arrival in Rabat to the first whistle against Malawi, Nigeria’s campaign has already begun to generate anticipation.

Now the talking must stop and the football must begin.

Africa awaits the Super Falcons — and Nigeria’s most decorated women’s team is ready to hunt down another crown.
