The minister of Finance and Coordinating minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on Monday held talks with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, in what officials described as a brief but substantive discussion on deepening collaboration between fiscal and monetary authorities.

The meeting, held at the finance ministry, focused on liquidity management and fiscal effectiveness — two issues that have repeatedly featured in Nigeria’s ongoing macroeconomic stabilisation efforts.

Speaking after the engagement, Oyedele said aligning monetary and fiscal policy remained central to sustaining the gains recorded so far and to accelerating the country’s path toward shared prosperity.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a long-running debate in Nigeria over the extent to which fiscal and monetary authorities coordinate policy. Previous administrations at the finance ministry have flagged the need for closer synergy with the CBN, particularly around managing liquidity, containing inflation, and ensuring exchange rate stability — issues that directly affect the cost of living and the business environment.

Since assuming office in April 2026, Oyedele has continued the ministry’s emphasis on macroeconomic stability, revenue mobilisation and reform implementation, themes that have defined economic policy under the current administration.

Monday’s meeting signals continuity in that approach under the new minister, and suggests the fiscal and monetary sides of government intend to present a united front on economic management.
