Mohamed Salah’s proposed move to Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas has collapsed after negotiations reportedly broke down over merchandise revenue and his agent’s commission.

According to Polymarket Sports, the former Liverpool forward had been in advanced talks with Besiktas over a free transfer after leaving Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 season.

However, the deal fell through after the Istanbul club reportedly refused to meet Salah’s demand for a significant share of revenue generated from shirt and merchandise sales.

A separate disagreement over the fee payable to his agent also remained unresolved, ultimately bringing negotiations to an end.

The collapse represents a major setback for Besiktas, who had reportedly identified Salah as their marquee signing as they seek to strengthen their squad and boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

The club had already begun preparing promotional material featuring the Egyptian superstar, while supporters had expressed considerable excitement on social media at the prospect of seeing the former Liverpool captain in the famous black-and-white shirt.

Besiktas must now turn their attention to alternative attacking targets with the summer transfer window approaching its conclusion.

For Salah, meanwhile, the failed negotiations add another twist to an uncertain summer following his high-profile departure from Liverpool.

The 34-year-old remains a free agent and continues to attract interest from clubs in the MLS and Saudi Pro League. However, no formal offer has reportedly been made that matches his wage expectations.

Salah’s camp is therefore expected to step up negotiations with potential suitors as the European transfer deadline approaches, with the Egyptian forward keen to secure a new club before the start of the new campaign.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Salah remains one of the most sought-after free agents in world football, with his goalscoring record and experience continuing to make him an attractive proposition for clubs looking to make a statement signing.
