Bauchi State police command has recovered over N16 million from suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and criminals arrested in connection with various crimes in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement made available to reporters in Bauchi detailing the achievements of the command in 2022.

Similarly, another $3,590 was recovered from the suspects by the police. However, the command, without releasing evidence, insisted that the recovered dollars were “suspected to be counterfeit.”

Others were 234 pieces of N1,000 note denomination suspected to be counterfeit and also a counterfeit of 3,590 pieces of $100.

He said 90 suspected cases of armed robbery were recorded where 209 suspects were arrested in connection with robbery cases in the state.

“Sixty cases of kidnapping, with the arrest of 157 suspects and different rescue operations that led to the freedom of 53 kidnapped victims from the kidnappers and three different hideouts of the kidnappers were destroyed with neutralised 12 enclaves as a result of the gun duel,” he said.

He said the command had put in place preventive crime measures which include visibility policing, community partnership, constant raids of black spots, regular surveillance on buildings and vulnerable areas, and stop and search among others to ensure the safety of the citizens.
