Welsh cyclist Emma Finucane made Commonwealth Games history on Sunday by becoming the first sprint rider to win four track golds at a single edition, capturing the keirin to complete a clean sweep of her events.

The 23-year-old added the keirin title to earlier victories in the team sprint, individual sprint, and 1,000m time trial, capping four consecutive days of racing at the Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand, the defending keirin gold medalist, settled for silver as Finucane outpaced the field in the final.

New Zealander Aaron Gate had won four total golds in Birmingham 2022—three on track and one on road—but Finucane is the first to claim four exclusively in track sprint disciplines. Australian legend Anna Meares and Andrews had each previously won three track titles in a single Games (2010 and 2022, respectively).

Finucane also becomes Wales’ first woman to win four golds at one Commonwealth Games and overtakes Para-sprinter Olivia Breen—who held the record for just two days—as Wales’ most decorated female athlete in Games history.

Weightlifter David Morgan remains Wales’ overall Commonwealth leader with nine golds and three silvers. Finucane’s victory pushed Wales’ total medal haul to 31 (nine gold, 10 silver, 12 bronze).
