Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly are currently in Nairobi, Kenya, on a study tour to strengthen their legislative capacity and improve institutional effectiveness by exposing them to international best practices.
This was disclosed in a statement issued yesterday by the speaker’s spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi.
According to him, the delegation selected the Parliament of Kenya for the study visit because it is widely recognised as one of Africa’s leading legislative institutions, renowned for its effective committee system, robust oversight functions, quality research support and the application of modern technology in legislative processes.
Kobi said the visit is expected to provide the lawmakers and legislative officials with a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, institutional learning and peer-to-peer engagement with their Kenyan counterparts.
The programme features technical sessions on lawmaking and legislative drafting, committee operations, budget scrutiny, parliamentary administration, research services, public participation and the use of digital tools to enhance legislative efficiency. Participants will also take part in interactive discussions and guided study tours.
The statement added that the study tour is being organised and facilitated by OZ Consulting under the leadership of Hajiya Abi Hafsat, who is the focal liaison between the Bauchi Assembly and the Kenyan Parliament to ensure a successful and productive engagement.
A total of 17 participants, comprising principal officers, members of the House and the Deputy Clerk, Musa Yarima, are participating in the programme.
The Assembly expressed optimism that the knowledge, skills and experience gained during the visit would be applied to strengthen legislative performance and contribute to improved governance and the overall well-being of the people of Bauchi State.
