Cleric Urges Moral Renewal Amid Global Uncertainty

Leader of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Pastor Evelyn Joshua, has called for moral renewal amid growing global uncertainty.

She urged people to embrace integrity, hope and lives rooted in enduring values.

The church, in a statement yesterday, said Pastor Joshua (widow of TB Joshau) made the call during the 2026 Living Water Service held at SCOAN’s headquarters in Lagos, where thousands of worshippers from across Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia and other parts of the world gathered for the annual event.
The cleric, who preached a sermon titled, “Standing by the Power of the Cross” stressed that the world’s growing search for peace and meaning could not be satisfied by material pursuits alone but through lives transformed by faith and guided by righteous conduct.

“To take the name of Jesus Christ into your day, from your bedside, is about speaking and acting in a way that reflects His character,” she said.

“Whatever thing you are doing, do it in the name of Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God through Him,” Joshua added

She described the Bible as “a sweet book” and “the chronicle of God’s love for His people,” adding that it continues to provide direction for people navigating uncertainty and fear.
“The entrance to the Kingdom of God is not difficult to find. The way has been made plain by the power of the Cross. The Cross boldly stands against our fears,” she said.

The church leader also spoke on the importance of identity, belonging and inner security, noting that many people today struggle with rejection, uncertainty and the pressures of an increasingly complex world.

“You have been included into those who belong to God. In belonging, there is acceptance and security. Your acceptance and security cannot be taken away from you. God has claimed you to Himself,” she said.

She added that genuine peace and purpose flow from knowing God.

“In knowing God there is peace, love and direction. When you discover Him through love and peace, you will discover a new purpose, a new identity,” she stated.

Reflecting on contemporary society, Pastor Evelyn observed that many people pursue temporary fulfilment while remaining spiritually and emotionally dissatisfied.

“Today the world is hungry not for physical food; many are busy feeding on many things – anything that catches their fantasies. Many are thirsty and longing for something to quench their thirst. True peace comes from knowing God,” she said.

Calling for moral renewal, she challenged worshippers to examine their own character rather than focus on the shortcomings of others.

“Which of these weaknesses control you: bitterness, anger, offence, envy, pride? Maturity is about Jesus Christ. Trials and temptations determine who you are in Christ Jesus. Sin easily hides where there is no heat or trial,” she said.

She urged believers to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, saying difficult times often reveal the strength of a person’s convictions.

“No matter how unsteady your life may appear to be, tests and trials determine your position before God. Make God’s Word the standard for your life,” she charged.

According to the statement, the 2026 Living Water Service attracted thousands of worshippers from around the world for worship, prayer and spiritual renewal, reflecting SCOAN’s international reach. The event also featured testimonies of healing, deliverance and breakthrough through Christ Jesus.

The church said Pastor Evelyn’s message underscored the importance of personal integrity, compassion and moral responsibility in addressing contemporary challenges, adding that her call for hope, ethical living and renewed purpose highlighted the role of individual character in building stronger families, cohesive communities and a more peaceful world.
