The Publicity Secretary of the Ogun State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Nuberu yesterday said the private meeting held between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde alongside two former governors, is not a threat to the party’s prospect of victory in the 2027 general elections.

Nuberu said this while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde; the former Ekiti Governor,  Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and former Osun Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, last Sunday, paid a private visit to Obasanjo at his Penthouse residence located within the precinct of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the state capital.

While details of the visit remains hazy,  it was learnt it might not be unconnected with the intrigues ahead of the 2027 general election.

Efforts at speaking with Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, proved unsuccessful, as he neither picked nor returned phone calls by our reporter.

Meanwhile, speaking exclusively with LEADERSHIP, APC spokesman, Nuberu, urged  APC supporters in the state and across the country not to lose sleep over the Obasanjo meeting.

The Ogun APC spokesman declared that the party would not lose sleep over the meeting, stressing that the visitation was in no way, a threat to his party’s chances of winning both in the state and at the federal level.

“What do we have to do with somebody visiting anybody in the state? The most important thing to note is that the electorates will vote and given the pedigree of the personalities involved in the said Abeokuta meeting, they are in no way a threat to the chances of APC winning all the elective positions being contested particularly here in Ogun State.

“Even when all of them were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was then the government of the day at the center and they had virtually, all their state governors intact, they were beaten hands-down, not now that we are consolidating on the gains of democracy. That is not a threat to anybody.

“APC is the party to beat and given the pedigree of all the candidates we are fielding for all the elective positions, particularly the governorship position in person of distinguished Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and other popular and tested candidates of the party, APC has no problem”.

“Again, giving the nature and process of the APC primaries on the concensus candidate where peace and tranquility reigned, we are of the stronger belief that all challenges are summontable. The party is more determined than before to win the forthcoming election at all levels. So, that visitation was in no way, a threat to our chances of winning both in Ogun State and at the Federal level”.
