Arsenal are on the brink of completing the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, with the Brazilian midfielder awaiting permission to undergo a medical ahead of the proposed move.
According to The Athletic, the two Premier League clubs are close to reaching an agreement on a transfer fee, bringing one of the summer’s longest-running transfer sagas to a conclusion.
The 28-year-old is understood to have informed Newcastle of his desire to join the Gunners, prompting negotiations between the two clubs.
Despite initially resisting Guimarães’ departure following the sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, Newcastle have reportedly softened their stance and are now prepared to sanction the transfer.
Once the deal is finalised, Guimarães is expected to join Mikel Arteta’s squad for pre-season preparations as Arsenal gear up for the defence of their Premier League title.
