Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has conferred the Leadership Award for Peace, Security and Good Governance on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

The award is in recognition of the developmental strides being widely witnessed in the state.

The ceremony which was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, formed part of the activities marking the national summit of NAWOJ tagged “Women In Security Summit and Awards 2026” with the theme “Strategic Role of Women In strengthening National Security Through Leadership, Innovation and Collaborative Partnership.”

The award was presented to the governor through his representative, the commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

A statement issued by Waiya, yesterday, explained that the award recognised excellence in public service which the state government under the present administration was known for.

Presenting the award to the commissioner, the director -general of the National Blood Service Agency, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, on behalf of NAWOJ, noted that the association considered the sterling achievements of the state government under Governor Yusuf and found him worthy of the recognition, an accolade which shall certainly serve as motivation and inspiration for others to emulate.

The female journalists noted in particular Kabir’s robust passion for women inclusiveness in governance, where women occupy critical and strategic positions of authority in public service service.

Women now lead strategic agencies in the state, reshaping the Kano development agenda.
