The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has congratulated 12 Nigerian coaches who successfully completed and passed the FIVB Level I Coaching Certification Course in Accra, Ghana.

The five-day course, which ran from 3 to 8 August 2026, is expected to strengthen the technical capacity of volleyball coaching in Nigeria and provide the sport with a larger pool of internationally trained coaches.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Godspower Odedede, Chairman of the NVBF Media and Publicity Committee, the federation described the coaches’ successful completion of the programme as another significant milestone in its efforts to improve technical standards in Nigerian volleyball.

The 12 participants, comprising seven female and five male coaches, were commended for their commitment, discipline and professionalism throughout the intensive programme.

The federation said their success demonstrated the coaches’ dedication to continuous learning and professional development, while also reflecting its commitment to producing technically sound coaches capable of competing at international standards.

The NVBF particularly welcomed the strong representation of women, noting that the successful certification of seven female coaches was in line with its efforts to promote greater female participation in volleyball coaching and leadership.

The federation said the knowledge, modern coaching methodologies and practical skills acquired during the FIVB Level I course would be transferred to clubs, schools, grassroots programmes and national teams, thereby contributing to the long-term development of volleyball across the country.

The NVBF also commended the FIVB and the organisers of the course for providing the Nigerian coaches with an opportunity to enhance their professional qualifications and broaden their technical knowledge.

The 12 newly certified coaches are Dorothy Egbum (Team Leader), Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua and George Samson Malaika.

The federation urged the coaches to view the qualification not only as a personal achievement but also as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigerian volleyball.

According to the NVBF, their success has further expanded the pool of professionally trained coaches available to drive technical excellence, talent development and sustainable growth of the sport in Nigeria.
