The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to develop a comprehensive security roadmap for the 2027 general elections at its forthcoming Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers.

The sixth edition of the conference is scheduled to hold from September 21 to 23, 2026, in Owerri, Imo State, with the theme, “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections.”

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the conference would provide a strategic platform for senior police commanders, security experts and other stakeholders to assess emerging threats and develop practical measures for effective election security.

According to him, discussions at the conference would focus on intelligence-led policing, police-community partnerships, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, among other contemporary approaches to strengthening police operations.

He said the deliberations would cover security measures required before, during and after the 2027 elections.

“Deliberations will focus on Intelligence-led Policing, Police-Community Partnerships, digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and other contemporary approaches to strengthening police operations before, during, and after elections,” Iniedu said.

The police spokesperson said the conference would primarily involve officers of the rank of Commissioner of Police and above, providing them with an opportunity to engage in strategic discussions and develop practical measures to improve the Force’s capacity for election security management.

He added that the retreat would also focus on strategies for protecting voters, electoral personnel, political candidates, electoral materials and members of the public throughout the electoral process.

Iniedu said the initiative was part of the police leadership’s broader commitment to institutional reform, professional development and operational preparedness ahead of the 2027 elections.

He reaffirmed the Force’s determination to strengthen the capacity of its personnel and ensure a peaceful, safe and secure environment for Nigerians during the next general elections.
