NUC Recognises BYU-Pathway Qualifications

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has recognised qualifications awarded through BYU-Pathway Worldwide, potentially strengthening the standing of the programme’s certificates and degrees for Nigerian students and graduates.

The development was disclosed by the president of BYU-Pathway Worldwide, Brian K. Ashton, in a statement issued ahead of a devotional held at the Ikeja Stake Centre in Lagos.

According to Ashton, the recognition followed several years of engagement between BYU-Pathway Worldwide and Nigerian education authorities.

He said the recognition would enable holders of BYU-Pathway certificates and degrees to present their qualifications to employers and educational institutions in Nigeria, subject to the requirements of individual employers, institutions and relevant professional regulatory bodies.

Ashton added that graduates seeking further education or professional advancement could have their qualifications considered within Nigeria’s education system, subject to applicable requirements.
He said the development would benefit Nigerian students pursuing education through the programme.

“This recognition represents more than an important milestone for BYU-Pathway Worldwide; it is a milestone for the thousands of students across Nigeria who are striving to improve their lives through education,” he said.

BYU-Pathway students in Nigeria study through the organisation’s Global Education Centre in Lagos, which supports online learning, mentoring and student activities.

The programme offers certificates and degrees through online study, allowing students to pursue their education while remaining in their communities.

BYU-Pathway Worldwide is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and provides online higher education programmes combining academic study with faith-based learning.
