Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have smashed a drug trafficking syndicate, arrested five suspects and recovered assorted illicit substances.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, who spoke on behalf of the commissioner of police (CP), Baba Azare, at the Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, yesterday, said the breakthrough was achieved through credible intelligence volunteered by some concerned residents.

She said, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under the leadership of the commissioner of police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal hideouts, illicit drug activities and other forms of criminality.

“The operation, conducted in furtherance of the commissioner’s ‘Operation Zero Black Spot’  and sustained directive to deny criminals safe havens across the State.

“Following credible intelligence received by operatives of the command on 11th August, 2026, at about 16:00hrs, operatives of the command conducted a targeted raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Mbak Itam, Ikot Mbang.”

She listed the five suspects as Abraham Emmanuel (male), Happiness Archibong, (female),  Esther Okon (female), Esther Udo (female) and Chinedu  Benjamin (male).

Several other suspects, according to her, fled the scene upon sighting the police vehicle and revealed incriminating items recovered -large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Tramadol, Loud, Ice, as well as the sum of ₦42,000.00, suspected to be proceeds connected to the illicit drug trade.

DSP John stated that the feat has delighted CP Azare, who commended the operatives “for their courage, vigilance and commitment to duty,” while reiterating that the Command would continue to sustain intelligence-led operations against criminal elements, particularly those who exploit isolated locations as bases for drug trafficking, cultism and other violent crimes.

The Command, therefore, called on members of the public to remain vigilant, while continuing to provide timely and credible information capable of assisting the Police in preventing and detecting crimes.
