Farmers Get Renewed Hope, NEDC Fertilisers In Yobe

The Renewed Hope Initiative, with the support of the Northeast Development Commission, has distributed fertilisers to vulnerable farmers across the state.

The distribution exercise took place at the Arts and Culture Centre in Damaturu.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the chairlady of the Renewed Hope Initiative and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the intervention was designed to improve agricultural productivity by providing women and youth farmers with timely access to quality fertiliser.

Represented by the Commissioner for the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Yajalo Badama, Senator Oluremi emphasised that the intervention aligned with the federal government’s reforms in food security, agricultural transformation, women’s empowerment and economic growth.

She expressed appreciation to the NEDC for its consistent support towards helping vulnerable people in the Northeast, urging beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs to achieve better harvests.
The first lady praised Governor Mai Mala Buni’s agricultural revitalisation policy, highlighting that agriculture remains a strategic and central sector in poverty reduction and community development.

In a welcome address, Hajiya Hafsat Kollere Buni, the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, stated that the intervention would complement the efforts of the state government in rebuilding communities, restoring livelihoods, and promoting sustainable development across the state.

Represented by the commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Mairo Ahmad Amshi, the wife of the governor, said empowering women farmers with essential agricultural inputs would also strengthen household incomes and significantly contribute to the state’s food security objectives.

According to her, over four hundred and eight women and youth will benefit from the support to increase crop yields, accelerate socio-economic recovery and promote sustainable development in the state.

In his speech, the NEDC managing director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by the state coordinator, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, stated that the fertiliser will support vulnerable women and youth smallholder farmers.

He explained that the Northeast Development Commission, in collaboration with the federal and state governments, launched the intervention to ensure rapid recovery as peace gradually stabilises in the region.

Some beneficiaries who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude to the first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for the support.
