The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) has taken delivery of near-expiry and short-dated consumables worth N28,615,200 voluntarily surrendered by a private enterprise, SUFAYE Investment, to prevent their circulation in local markets.
Receiving the products, the Executive Secretary of KCPC, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, commended the firm’s management for prioritizing public health and consumer safety over financial gain. He described the gesture as a demonstration of patriotism, integrity, and alignment with the council’s core mandate to protect residents from unsafe goods.
Dr. Muhammad praised SUFAYE Investment for maintaining ethical standards by handing over the items rather than risking consumer well-being.
He urged other commercial enterprises across Kano State to emulate the company by actively withdrawing damaged, adulterated, or expired stock from store shelves.
According to him, the agency has impounded and received compromise-prone products running into millions of naira over the past four months. He disclosed that the council is currently awaiting formal approval from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to execute the lawful destruction of the confiscated inventory.
The KCPC boss reassured the public of the state government’s commitment to market regulation, while thanking residents and compliant business owners for aiding the council’s monitoring activities.
Earlier, the Manager of SUFAYE Investment, Alhaji Jabir, stated that the exercise followed routine internal audits aimed at removing short-dated items, particularly beverages, from retail supply chains in adherence to statutory standards.
He applauded KCPC’s vigilant oversight of the state’s commercial sector, noting that sustained regulatory enforcement safeguards public health while bolstering confidence in local enterprise.
Alhaji Jabir assured consumers that the company remains committed to maintaining strict quality control standards across all its product lines.
