Arsenal Calls For Swift Resolution Of Manchester City Financial Case

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick has called for a speedy resolution to the long-running disciplinary case involving Manchester City, saying Premier League clubs need clarity over the outcome.

City are facing more than 100 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules. The club has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The independent commission handling the case has yet to publish its ruling, more than 18 months after the disciplinary hearing concluded and around three and a half years after City were first charged.

Speaking ahead of the new Premier League season, Garlick acknowledged the frustration caused by the prolonged process but stressed that Arsenal had no control over the timing of the decision.

“It has gone on for a while. Everybody, the league and the teams, would want the clarity around what’s going to happen next,” he said.

Garlick added that he could not speculate on the outcome or when the ruling would be delivered, but expressed hope that the matter would be resolved soon.

His comments came after Premier League chief executive Richard Masters also admitted that the case had taken longer than initially expected, describing it as a “hugely complex” matter.

Masters said the league was required to respect the independent disciplinary process and allow the commission to reach its conclusion before any further action could be taken.

The prolonged case has reportedly caused concern among some Premier League clubs, with one club source suggesting that the league should consider improving its disciplinary system to ensure similar cases are resolved more quickly in the future.

The financial implications of lengthy legal disputes have also become a concern, with the Premier League spending £45 million on legal bills during the 2023-24 season, much of it linked to disputes over financial regulations.

For now, Premier League clubs remain reliant on the independent commission to deliver its ruling, with Garlick among those calling for an end to the uncertainty surrounding the high-profile Manchester City case.
