Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states as security forces intensify efforts to protect communities and disrupt terrorist activities in the region.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday, saying the operations were conducted between August 18 and 19, 2026.

Danja said troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State encountered a terrorist ambush on August 19 but responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee.

“During the encounter, five civilians were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families,” the Joint Task Force said.

The troops also recovered two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

In Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, troops on August 18 launched a search-and-rescue operation after receiving intelligence on the abduction of three civilians.

Danja said the operation resulted in the successful recovery of all three victims, who were profiled before being handed over to the appropriate local authorities.

Also on August 18, troops responded to reports of terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The Joint Task Force said the rapid mobilisation of troops forced the terrorists to flee, leaving behind two captives.

The two victims, who sustained gunshot wounds during their ordeal, were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

The Joint Task Force said efforts were ongoing to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, assuring residents that it would sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.

It also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations and strengthen the protection of lives and property.
