FCT Women’s Inter Area Council Football Tourney Kicks Off Friday

The 2026 FCT Football Association (FCT FA) Women’s Inter Area Council Football Tournament will kick off on Friday, August 21, with six Area Councils set to battle for the title.

The tournament, which begins at 10am at a designated centre in the Federal Capital Territory, is organised to provide a competitive platform for female footballers to showcase their talents and create opportunities for the discovery and development of promising players.

FCT FA chairman, Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed, will perform the ceremonial kick-off, with football stakeholders, government representatives, coaches, match officials and supporters expected to attend the opening ceremony.

The tournament is part of the FCT FA’s efforts to strengthen women’s football at grassroots level and provide talented players across the Territory with regular competitive opportunities and greater exposure.

The six Area Councils have been divided into two groups, with Bwari, Gwagwalada and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in Group A, while Abaji, Kuje and Kwali make up Group B.

The group stage will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semi-finals.

In Group A, AMAC will face Gwagwalada on Friday, before Gwagwalada take on Bwari on Sunday, August 23. Bwari will then host AMAC on Tuesday, August 25.

The second round will see Bwari host Gwagwalada on August 27, AMAC welcome Bwari on August 29, while Gwagwalada face AMAC on August 31.

Group B will begin on Saturday, August 22, with Abaji hosting Kuje. Kwali will face Abaji on August 24, while Kuje take on Kwali on August 26.

The return fixtures will see Kuje host Abaji on August 28, Abaji welcome Kwali on August 30, and Kwali entertain Kuje on September 1.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, with the Group A winners facing the Group B runners-up, while the Group B winners meet the Group A runners-up.

The tournament will culminate on Saturday, September 5, with the third-place match scheduled for 1pm and the final billed for 3pm.

The FCT FA says the competition is aimed at providing a sustainable pathway for female players to progress from grassroots football to higher levels of the game.
