Morgan Rogers has declared that Chelsea are firmly fixed on challenging for the Premier League’s crown as the club gears up for Monday’s season-opening derby against Fulham.
The Blues make the short trip to Craven Cottage for Xabi Alonso’s first competitive match in the dugout, where a host of summer arrivals—Rogers among them—will be vying to make their official debuts in royal blue.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the former Aston Villa attacking midfielder made no secret of Chelsea’s lofty objectives, insisting that the squad is fully aware of the non-negotiable standards set by their fanbase and the institution itself.
“The supporters expect to see a team performing at the level they demand, and everyone at Chelsea Football Club expects to go toe-to-toe with anybody and sit right at the league’s peak. That is our ambition and our target,” Rogers stated.
While acknowledging that Alonso’s tactical revamp will inevitably require a settling-in period, the 22-year-old stressed that the group is desperate to make an immediate impression rather than lean on patience as an excuse.
“There’s a process involved—new manager, fresh ideas—and it always takes a little time to click perfectly. But we don’t want to use that as a crutch; we want to hit the ground running,” he added. “We are convinced we have the talent and the quality to do exactly that.”
Chelsea enter the new campaign as one of several top-flight outfits ushering in fresh leadership, alongside Manchester City and Liverpool, with the title race already shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory.
