Troops Rescue Abducted Woman, Foil Bandits’ Ransom Collection In Kebbi

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and other anti-banditry formations in Kebbi State have rescued a woman abducted from her farm 30 days ago and foiled an attempt by bandits to collect a huge ransom from her family.

The acting spokesman of the troops, Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this to journalists in the early hours of Thursday.

Osoba said the troops acted on credible intelligence that the woman was being held in a bandits’ enclave and swiftly mobilised to the location.

According to him, the troops engaged the bandits in a gun battle, dismantled their position and disrupted the planned ransom exchange between the criminals and the victim’s family.

“The woman was, however, rescued and reunited with her family in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State,” Osoba said.

He added that the operation had prevented the bandits from collecting the ransom reportedly demanded from the victim’s family.

Osoba further disclosed that the troops had conducted clearance operations in Ngaski Local Government Area and parts of Danko/Wasagu to prevent terrorists and bandits from attacking or intimidating residents.

He assured residents that the military would sustain operations across the state, particularly in areas considered vulnerable to criminal activities.

“We will keep open fire everywhere in the no-go areas in Kebbi State until these criminal bandits and terrorists banish,” Osoba said.
