Troops of Sector 2, “Operation Fansan Yamma”, have foiled an attempt by terrorists to advance into Ghandi town, Rabah local government area of Sokoto State.

The operation, conducted on yesterday evening, led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, the military said.

This was contained in a statement by the acting deputy director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma.

According to the statement, troops acted on credible intelligence about an armed group’s movement toward Ghandi Town. They swiftly deployed to strategic positions near the Ghandi bridge to intercept the threat.

“Upon my contact, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, overpowering the group and forcing them to retreat in disarray,” the statement said.

During the confrontation, several insurgents sustained gunshot wounds and attempted to escape by jumping into the adjacent river.

A clearance and search operation conducted at daybreak led to the recovery of operational items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Items recovered include 1 AK-47 rifle, one loaded magazine, additional rounds of ammunition and various personal effects.

The military said search and mop-up operations are ongoing in the general area to track down the fleeing suspects.

The statement added that Operation Fansan Yamma remains committed to denying terrorists freedom of action and securing communities across the North-west Joint Operations Area.

Rabah LGA and other parts of Sokoto have witnessed repeated terrorist incursions. Operation Fansan Yamma was launched to coordinate joint military action to degrade terrorist capabilities and restore peace in the region.
