Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a Kogi State-born grassroots politician and philanthropist, Hon. Joshua Yakubu, has pledged to intensify his mobilisation efforts for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Yakubu made the commitment during the installation of campaign billboards at strategic locations across Kogi East, describing the initiative as the beginning of a broader grassroots mobilisation drive aimed at sustaining political awareness and strengthening support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the elections.
He said the campaign would be taken to communities across Kogi East, stressing that grassroots engagement remained critical to electoral success.
“This is just the beginning. We did this in 2023 and here we are again. We are taking this campaign to every corner of Kogi East, and these billboards represent our determination to keep the message of good governance visible to our people,” Yakubu said.
His political network, according to him, cuts across party leaders, elders, women, youths and polling-unit structures in Dekina and other parts of Kogi East.
“Our support for President Tinubu and Governor Ododo is not seasonal. It is rooted in a genuine belief in continuity and stability for our people.
“We are not just individuals. We are a formidable group of people across various pressure groups who believe in me and have pledged allegiance to my political leanings,” he said.
Yakubu, who participated in the mobilisation efforts that contributed to the APC’s performance in the 2023 elections, said the experience had further strengthened his resolve to contribute more towards the party’s success in 2027.
He said his strategy would involve consolidating existing structures while expanding the party’s reach to more communities and voters across the region.
“Politics anywhere in the world is local. The seat of power may be in the city, but the electoral votes that deliver that seat are largely in the rural communities.
“We have seen what grassroots unity can achieve, and in 2027, we intend to do even more,” he stated.
On his support for President Tinubu, Yakubu said it was based on his confidence in the direction of the administration and his belief that government policies and programmes should be properly communicated to citizens at the grassroots.
He also expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Ododo, describing the governor as committed to the development of Kogi State.
“The achievements of this administration deserve to be communicated properly to our people, and that responsibility begins with us at the grassroots.
“Some policies take time to yield results, and that is exactly what is going on with our country now. Nigeria is going through reforms, and Mr President is working hard to give us a Nigeria that we can be proud of through strategic restructuring.
“Governor Ododo has also shown capacity and commitment to Kogi State, and it is our duty to ensure that this commitment translates into continued support at the polls.
“Payment of workers’ salaries, which used to be a prayer point before now, is one of the issues that should be properly communicated to the people,” he said.
Yakubu maintained that effective political mobilisation could not be achieved from offices alone, stressing the need for direct engagement with voters in communities, markets and homes.
“You cannot win elections from the comfort of an office. You win them on the streets, in the markets and in people’s homes, and that is what my team and I are committed to doing in order to bring victory home for our dear party, the APC,” he said.
He identified polling-unit leaders, elders, women and youths as critical components of the party’s grassroots mobilisation structure. “These are the people who carry our message from house to house. Without them, no campaign can succeed.
“We are not starting from zero; we are building on a foundation that has already proved strong,” he added.
For the Kogi-born politician, the 2027 election presents an opportunity to consolidate previous mobilisation efforts, deepen engagement with the electorate and strengthen the structures supporting the APC.
