Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen faces up to a month on the sidelines after Galatasaray confirmed that he has suffered a significant muscle injury to his right groin.
The Turkish champions said an MRI scan and further examinations at Acıbadem Hospital revealed a moderate-to-severe strain involving bleeding and muscle damage in the right adductor.
Osimhen picked up the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday and was substituted after appearing to suffer discomfort.
The 27-year-old is expected to be sidelined for between three weeks and one month, ruling him out of several important fixtures for both club and country.
At club level, Osimhen is set to miss Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League opener against Sporting Lisbon, as well as Turkish Super Lig encounters against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
The injury is an even bigger concern for Nigeria, with the forward expected to miss the Super Eagles’ opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures in September.
Nigeria are scheduled to face Madagascar on 23 September before travelling to Guinea-Bissau four days later for their second qualifying match.
Osimhen’s absence would be a significant setback for the Super Eagles, with the striker regarded as one of the team’s most influential attacking players.
