A fresh crisis is brewing in the Ngor Okpala local government chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the party Primaries for Owerri senate district.
The unresolved issues emanated over what party leaders described as betrayal by party leaders in the LGA during the July APC senatorial Primaries.
The APC stakeholders made their position during the party’s leadership meeting held at Obiangwu/Ezemba Ward 10, where they lamented over what they described as betrayal by party leaders in the LGA especially against their son, Dr Chijioke Kaduru, who was a front line aspirant.
The Ward Chairman, Christopher Ogu
who made the presentation on behalf of the party faithful lamented to the former Secretary to the Government of Imo State and a gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of APC in 2023, Chief George Eche, that their son, Dr Chijioke Kaduru, a former senatorial aspirant invested hugely in the party through his foundation’s empowerment programs across the nine LGAs in Owerri zone.
Ogu said, Kaduru had been the only one funding party meetings in Ngor Okpala LGA where he disbursed the sum of five hundred thousand naira (500,000), each across the eleven political Wards, adding that what he got in return was sabotage from leaders of the party who preferred a senatorial candidate from Owerri North local government area.
Director General of Nkwa Chikwere Organization, Comr Chukwuma Anuforo said they had expected strategic meetings between Dr Chijioke Kaduru’s campaign team to get them integrated in the scheme of things but regretted that some leaders were only interested in how to manage election funds instead of poaching party supporters who are aggrieved as a result of the outcome of the national Assembly primaries
Anuforo disclosed that the situation has led to mass exodus in the party on a daily basis across the eleven political wards in Ngor Okpala APC card carrying members, saying “they are moving in droves and positioning themselves into the opposition’s Action Peoples Party, APP. I fear that Ngor Okpala electorates will vote massively for Mazi Chima Amadi of the APP if the leadership of the party at the state level doesn’t intervene”, he said.
The leaders listed conditions to support APC in the local government area to include the political structure of Dr Kaduru presented with the medical doctor leading the senate campaigns in Ngor Okpala LGA.
Further he said “every leader should relocate to his ward and polling units to work for the party and stop giving false hope that all is well in Ngor Okpala LGA
“For Governor Hope Uzodimma to call to order, leaders of the party who claim to be apex leaders of the party while they no longer have electoral value in their respective wards.
“Currently, the senate candidate of APP for Owerri zone, Dr Chima Amadi has penetrated our strong holds and if nothing is done, Ngor Okpala LGA would be a walk over for him come January 16th, 2027. Let us not forget that he is an Ngor Okpala son”, Anuforo added.
He appealed to Chief George Eche to distance himself from such leaders whom he described as forces militating against the development of Ngor Okpala LGA.
The APC leaders adopted the motion and warned that if their conditions are not met, APC will experience abysmal failure during the general election.
Responding, the former Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Eche aligned himself with the call by his ward party stakeholders and supporters, adding that he will not oppose the aspiration of any APC aspirant from Ngor Okpala LGA but accused the Ngor Okpala apex leaders for failing to provide leadership when needed.
Further, he appealed for calm and assured of continued engagements with the hope to proffer solution to the looming implosion in the party.
Leadership reports that Amadi of the APP is holding massive consultations in the nine local government areas of Imo East including in Ngor Okpala.
Dr Kaduru was a strong contender for the Imo East senatorial ticket but following negotiations, stepped down for the APC candidate, Dr Alex Mbata.
