Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has intensified his agricultural empowerment drive in Nasarawa North Senatorial District, donating farm equipment to farmers and promising to promote mechanised farming if elected governor in 2027.

Adamu, who is also the Nasarawa State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), continued the empowerment programme on Tuesday across Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas of the senatorial district.

The programme, carried out in conjunction with his wife, Hajiya Rukayya Abubakar Adamu, is designed to boost agricultural production by giving farmers access to equipment and other resources needed to expand cultivation and reduce dependence on manual farming.

Beyond the distribution of farm inputs, the initiative includes the provision of tractors and other agricultural equipment to farmers, with Adamu positioning mechanised agriculture as a key component of his proposed development agenda for the state.

As part of the latest phase of the programme, seven beneficiaries who were absent during an earlier empowerment exercise in Akwanga were provided with three-wheel motorcycles on Tuesday.

Rukayya personally contacted the beneficiaries and invited them to the ERCC headquarters in Akwanga, where they received the empowerment items.

Speaking on the initiative, Adamu said agriculture would occupy a central position in his administration, stressing that increased investment in farming was critical to achieving food security and improving the livelihoods of rural communities.

He said, “We must empower our farmers with the tools they need to produce more. Food security will be a priority under my administration.”

The former police chief said the provision of appropriate agricultural equipment would enable farmers to cultivate larger areas, increase food production and reduce the physical burden associated with traditional farming.

He also said mechanised farming would make agriculture more attractive, particularly to younger people, while strengthening the state’s capacity to produce food for its growing population.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Adamu for the intervention and prayed for his success in the 2027 governorship election.

The agricultural empowerment programme, which covers the three local government areas in Nasarawa North Senatorial District, forms part of Adamu’s activities ahead of the governorship election.
