4 Court Cases Challenging Adeola’s Ogun Guber Candidacy Withdrawn – Aide

Four separate lawsuits challenging the candidacy of Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, have been withdrawn, his media aide, Kayode Odunaro, has said.

Odunaro disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the cases were discontinued at different times as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

He said no reasons were stated for the withdrawal of the suits but claimed that the litigants had become convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and subsequently decided to support his bid for the governorship.

One of the cases, FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was filed by Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

Another suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State chairman of the Booth Party; Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP); Ola Olamide Emmanuel of the Action Democratic Party (ADP); Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, an ADP member; and Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of the Labour Party (LP).

The plaintiffs in the suit sued Adeola, INEC and the APC.

Odunaro said the other two discontinued cases were FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26.

He said the plaintiffs across the cases included some of the aforementioned party officials and members, alongside Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State chairman of the African Democratic Party (ADP); Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, an LP member; and Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.

According to Odunaro, Awoniyi’s suit was discontinued on August 24, 2026, while the remaining three cases were withdrawn on September 7, 2026.

He said the withdrawals took place in open court, with the defendants and their lawyers duly notified through notices of discontinuance.

Odunaro said Adeola welcomed the development and remained focused on his campaign and efforts to mobilise support across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election.

He quoted the APC candidate as saying, “I am more than ever focused on my delivery of dividends of democracy for Ogun State people and continue my mobilization for full campaign across the state in the days ahead for the general election.”

The withdrawal of the suits comes as political parties and their candidates intensify campaigns, consultations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
