A fire incident has damaged part of the Idu Train Station in Abuja, affecting some electrical installations.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), which confirmed the incident on Thursday, said the fire, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, was quickly brought under control.

According to the NRC chief public relations officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the incident occurred in the station’s low-voltage electrical room.

Unyimadu said preliminary inspection showed that some electrical supply cables connected to the control panels were damaged in the incident.

He, however, stressed that the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected by the fire.
