The lone survivor of an attack on a commercial bus around Dungus Junction in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Mr Nasiru Garba, has narrated how he escaped death.

Garba, a resident and bus conductor, said the incident occurred at about 9:30pm, when the driver stopped by the roadside to drop off some passengers.

The bus, which was travelling to Jos, was later found stained with blood and riddled with bullet holes.

Narrating his experience, Garba said all eight passengers and the driver were killed in the attack.

“We parked by the roadside and dropped off five passengers. After they alighted, the driver got down to collect the transport fare.

“I was in front of the bus waiting for the driver. Immediately, the driver opened the door to enter,  the gunmen opened fire on the passengers who had alighted.

“All the passengers who had already alighted, the remaining passengers in the bus and the driver died.

“Immediately I heard the gunshots, I bent down inside the vehicle. The attackers approached the bus, opened the front door and searched me. They collected all the money along with my phone, which was charging.

“They did not say anything while carrying out the act, and I did not look at their faces,” he said.

Garba described the attack as terrible, saying he was confused and terrified when it occurred.

He added that the incident happened only four days after he started working as a bus conductor.
