Tears flowed in Woru – Agunbelewo, Osogbo, Osun State, as the remains of the factional leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun, Mr Olalekan Oyeyemi (aka ‘Emir Ajagungbade’), were laid to rest on Monday evening at his house.

Oyeyemi was reportedly shot dead at Mayfair Park, Ile-Ife, on Sunday, and his remains were moved from the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where they were taken for burial yesterday.

It was gathered that he was buried according to traditional rites, and only traditionalists were allowed at the burial venue.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has directed all those mentioned in the murder incident to report themselves at the nearest police station rather than go on social media to defend themselves.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and assured that those involved in the dastardly act will be apprehended.

His words: “The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for more investigation.

“As many as those that are being mentioned, they should go to the nearest Police station to report themselves rather than going to social media to defend themselves.

“The Commissioner of Police has promised that all those involved will be apprehended and face the law, irrespective of who they are”. Ojelabi said.

Also, the commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, has debunked the claim that he announced the deceased’s preference as the next chairman of the NURTW in the state at a meeting on Sunday.

According to him, the suggestion that Mr Olalekan Oyeyemi become the next chairman of NURTW in the state was made by those present at the meeting.

In a chat with newsmen in Osogbo, Oyeyemi said, “The person who did the video was not in the meeting I had with them. Had he been there, he would have known that what I told them was not what he said in that video.

“I was not in the meeting they had in Osogbo last week. After that meeting, which involved transport union members from various branches, they called me on Thursday and said they wanted to come and see me.

“I told them to come to my office on Monday (yesterday), but they said they could come to my house.

“They came around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. When they got to my house, they told me they had all agreed that Olalekan Emir should be the next chairman and wanted me to support them.

“I told them that since that was what they wanted, I would present their case before the governor, the Chief of Staff and others when he gets back to the state.

“That was our agreement before they left. It was 2 hours after they left my house that I was called that Emir had been killed”.

While announcing the governor’s closure of the Mayfair park, the commissioner appealed for calm, adding that all issues will be resolved amicably soon.
