Nigeria Resumes CAF A-Licence Coaching Course After 9 Years Break

Nigeria has commenced its first CAF A-Licence coaching course in nine years, with 25 top-flight coaches beginning intensive theoretical and practical training in Abuja.

The two-module course, which began in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday, marks Nigeria’s return to the CAF A-Licence Convention after a prolonged break.

The participants include coaches from Nigeria’s various national teams as well as clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).
The first module will run for five days, while the second and final module is scheduled to take place next month.

Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, is expected to officially declare the first module open on Wednesday.

The return of the CAF A-Licence course represents a significant step in the development of elite coaching in Nigeria, with the qualification providing an advanced pathway for coaches working at the highest levels of the domestic game and national teams.

Although the CAF A-Licence course had not been organised in Nigeria for nine years, the NFF continued to conduct coaching programmes at D, C and B-Licence levels.

The federation also organised an exclusive CAF C-Licence course for women in 2025, which consisted of three modules delivered over three months.

The latest A-Licence programme is expected to strengthen the technical capacity of Nigerian coaches and provide participants with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge required to operate at elite level.
