The Architects, Artisans and Construction Managers Institute of Nigeria (AICON) has inducted 200 new members and artisans, with the association urging practitioners to uphold professional ethics and comply with approved construction standards.
The induction ceremony held in Abuja brought together architects, artisans, construction managers and other stakeholders in the building and construction sector to adress growing concerns over professionalism, safety and quality in the industry.
Speaking at the event, the president of AICON, Arc Umar Garba, stressed the need for professionals and artisans to maintain high ethical standards and ensure that construction projects were executed in line with approved specifications.
He said the ceremony was aimed at strengthening professionalism, competence and adherence to established standards among practitioners, while promoting collaboration across the various disciplines involved in the construction process.
Garba said closer collaboration among architects, artisans, construction managers and other professionals was necessary to deliver safe, durable and sustainable buildings.
He described the induction as a significant milestone in the careers of the new members, saying their admission would provide an avenue for them to contribute their expertise to the growth of the construction sector.
He further charged the inductees to uphold professionalism, integrity and excellence in their respective areas of practice.
“Your admission into the association is not only a recognition of our professional standing, but also a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria’s construction industry”, he said.
The AICON president said the association would continue to promote capacity building and encourage members to adopt modern construction practices that conform to acceptable standards.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to individuals recognised for their contributions, support and commitment to the growth of AICON and the wider construction industry.
Earlier, representatives of the minister of works and housing, Chima Wogu-Ogbonna among other stakeholders urged the inductees to see their admission into the association as a responsibility to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s construction industry.
They also encouraged them to continually improve their skills, maintain professional standards and place safety and quality above profit in the execution of construction projects.
