200 FCT Female Students To Get Scholarships

An educational empowerment initiative of the PHPA Abuja Grassroots Girls STEM Alliance (FGGSA) has commenced a scholarship programme for female science students in three Government Science Secondary Schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Under the initiative, the Alliance, in a statement signed by Mariam Haruna, said it plans to grant scholarships to 200 girls to promote their participation and advancement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). “Particular attention will be given to promising girls from indigenous and underserved communities who demonstrate strong interest and potential in science-related subjects,” she said.

The founder and Project Champion of the Alliance, Princess Hauwa Philip Aduda, described the programme as an important investment in the future of girls in the FCT.

“Our goal is to ensure that no talented girl is prevented from pursuing her dream in science because of her background or financial circumstances. By investing in these 200 girls, we are nurturing the scientists, engineers, innovators and technology leaders of tomorrow.”

The scholarship programme is designed to reduce financial barriers to education while providing beneficiaries with academic support, mentorship and exposure to opportunities in science, technology and innovation. It reflects the Alliance’s commitment to preparing young girls to participate meaningfully in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

The selection and implementation process will be undertaken in collaboration with the participating schools and relevant stakeholders to ensure fairness, transparency and measurable impact. The pilot programme will also provide a foundation for expansion to additional schools and communities across the six Area Councils of the FCT.

Helpline Social Support Initiative, the technical partner of FGGSA, will support the implementation of the programme through its experience in educational interventions, gender advocacy, mentorship and grassroots mobilisation.

The Alliance calls on government institutions, private-sector organisations, development partners and well-meaning individuals to support this important investment in girls’ education and the scientific and technological development of the Federal Capital Territory.
