Fire Outbreak Destroys Property Worth ₦20m In Kano Varsity

A fire outbreak has occurred at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Kano State, destroying property estimated at ₦20 million.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kano State Command, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

According to the FFS, its personnel received an emergency call at about 11:38 a.m. from the Police Academy (POLAC) Fire Station after the university’s security personnel reported the incident to the Commander of the Nigeria Police Academy.

The Service said its team, led by ASF II Nura Haladu, immediately mobilised to the university, where firefighters found files and other materials burning in an office at the Department of Architecture.

The FFS said its personnel, working with officers of the Kano State Fire Service, successfully extinguished the fire using two medium jets of water.

The Service stated that property estimated at ₦700 million was involved in the incident, while assets worth about ₦680 million were saved.

It added that property valued at approximately ₦20 million was destroyed in the fire.

A preliminary assessment indicated that the incident was suspected to have been caused by damaged electrical wiring.

However, the FFS said a full-scale investigation had been ordered to establish the actual cause of the fire.

The State Controller of the FFS Kano Command, DCF Sadiq Usman Mahmud, commended the firefighters and the Kano State Fire Service for their timely response and collaboration in containing the incident.

He urged institutions and members of the public to regularly inspect and maintain electrical installations and replace damaged or faulty wiring promptly to minimise the risk of fire outbreaks.
