The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal, has joined her counterparts from across the 19 Northern states in Yola, Adamawa State, for a strategic regional engagement of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum aimed at scaling up humanitarian interventions and women empowerment initiatives in the North.
The high-level gathering, which commenced on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, serves as a collaborative platform to harmonise interventions, optimise resource distribution and strengthen safety nets for vulnerable women, children and marginalised households across the geopolitical zone.
LEADERSHIP reports that the delegation, led by the Chairperson of the Forum and First Lady of Gombe State, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, arrived at the Lamido Mustapha International Airport, Yola, where they were received by the host First Lady, Hajiya Lami Fintiri.
Shortly on arrival, the First Ladies embarked on a series of impact-driven civic engagements.
At the Specialist Hospital, Yola, the Forum commissioned state-of-the-art medical equipment and distributed essential care supplies to bolster healthcare delivery and ease patient burden at the facility.
The delegation subsequently convened at the Adamawa State Government House where it flagged off a major empowerment scheme, dispensing financial grants and food commodities to thousands of vulnerable women.
The intervention, according to the Forum, reflects its overarching mandate to champion gender-inclusive development, alleviate economic hardship and build resilience among women as key drivers of rural and suburban economies.
The retreat brings together First Ladies from Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Yobe, Borno and other Northern states to exchange best practices, evaluate intervention models and align advocacy initiatives with broad socio-economic development targets.
In a statement issued by the Press Secretary, Office of the First Lady of Zamfara State, Rabi Yusuf, Hajiya Hurriya Lawal’s participation underscores Zamfara State’s commitment to regional synergy, gender advocacy and human capital development.
“By uniting with the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, the Office of the First Lady of Zamfara State continues to elevate the national discourse on social welfare, ensuring that state-level policy directions translate into tangible, compassionate governance for the most deserving citizens,” the statement said.
The Northern Governors’ Wives Forum has in recent years remained a formidable bloc pushing for improved maternal and child healthcare, girl-child education and economic inclusion for women across Northern Nigeria.
