IGP Assures Protection Of 3,000 Delegates At Global PR Conference In Nigeria

The inspector-general of police, IGP Olatunji Disu has assured the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) of adequate security protection and operational support for more than 3,000 delegates expected to attend a global public relations conference in Abuja later this year.

Disu gave the assurance when the President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, led a delegation of the institute on a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The NIPR delegation was at the police headquarters to formally brief the IGP on Nigeria’s hosting of the international conference and seek the cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force towards ensuring a safe and successful event.

Neliaku said the conference, for which Nigeria had secured the hosting rights, was expected to attract participants from 126 countries, making it a major international gathering that would place Nigeria and Abuja in the global spotlight.

He stressed the need for comprehensive security arrangements, particularly given the large number of international delegates expected to arrive in the country.

The NIPR president sought police support in areas including security coordination, protection of delegates and other operational arrangements necessary for the smooth conduct of the conference.

Responding, Disu pledged the full support and cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force towards the successful hosting of the event.

The IGP assured the NIPR delegation that the police would work closely with the organisers to put appropriate security measures in place to guarantee the safety of participants throughout the conference.

Disu also expressed his readiness to personally identify with the international gathering, assuring the delegation that he would attend the conference.

Neliaku said preparations for the conference had progressed satisfactorily, adding that Nigeria remained committed to delivering an event that would meet international standards.

According to him, the participation of delegates from 126 countries would provide an opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its hospitality, professional capacity and ability to host major international events.

With more than 3,000 delegates expected, security, traffic management, movement of international participants and effective coordination among relevant security agencies are expected to form key components of the preparations.

The conference is expected to bring together public relations practitioners and other stakeholders from across the world for professional networking, knowledge exchange and discussions on developments in the global public relations industry.
