Fubara Mum Over APC Govs’ Decision On Rainbow Coalition

Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara seems to be quiet over the decision of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state not to associate with the decision of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) on the activities of the Rainbow Coalition.

LEADERSHIP observed that more that four days after the leadership of the party in the state issued a statement, aligning with the Rainbow Coalition, Fubara, who is also a member of the APC, has not said anything.

A call put across by our correspondent to the governor’s media aide, Onwuka Nzechi, was not responded to.

Meanwhile, there seems to be mixed reactions among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State over the decision of the party in the state to continue to align with the Rainbow Coalition, despite the dissociation of the decision of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) on the coalition.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Sunday in Port Harcourt yesterday, a former member  of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke, said the APC at the national level doesn’t need to lose sleep over the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.

Nwuke said: “The constitution says that people have right to associate and so, under the right of association, everybody has the right to choose who he has to associate with.

“If the APC at the national level for some reasons is saying that it does not recognise the Rainbow Coalition and our governor here in Rivers State, is a member of Rainbow Coalition, I don’t think it is something to lose sleep over.

“Governors want APC to win and the governor of Rivers State wants APC to win. The Rainbow Coalition wants the president to win. I think it is the not what we think about.

“That directive is not from the party to governors especially, it is a reaction from the governors. What matters is that there is a directive coming from the party.”

On his part, spokesman of the Emeka Bekwele-led APC in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, stated that governors remained very vital components of the party across the country.

Nwauju said: “The truth of the matter is that we must all realise that the governors of tht All Progressives Congress, that the pulse of our constitution remain very vital  component of the All  Progressives Congress and it is like a situation where you are meant to take the fish out of the water.

“There is no way the wish can survive outside the water; so the party cannot survive without the governors.”
