Isak Strikes As Liverpool Edge Bournemouth To Extend Winning Run

Liverpool returned to winning ways as Alexander Isak’s second-half strike secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Isak settled a largely uneventful encounter in the 57th minute, scoring his fourth Premier League goal of the season to leave Bournemouth still searching for their first top-flight victory of the campaign.

The Sweden international reacted quickest from close range after Cody Gakpo produced a determined run into the area before sending the ball across goal. Bournemouth failed to clear the danger and Isak pounced to give Liverpool the lead.

Isak ran towards the travelling Liverpool supporters to celebrate, earning a booking from referee Michael Oliver in the process.

The victory also marked a winning return to Bournemouth for Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who led the Cherries to European qualification for the first time before leaving the club to take charge at Anfield during the summer.

Iraola received a warm reception from the home supporters before kick-off, but his former side failed to make the occasion memorable as Liverpool claimed all three points.

Bournemouth had the first clear opportunity when Evanilson flicked the ball towards goal in the 18th minute, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson reacted well to push the effort behind for a corner.

Liverpool struggled to create clear-cut chances before the break, with Florian Wirtz seeing a close-range effort go over the bar after being flagged offside. Replays, however, showed the Germany international had been onside.

Liverpool gradually increased the pressure after the interval and eventually broke the deadlock through Isak.

The visitors had further opportunities to extend their advantage, with £123 million signing Bradley Barcola forcing Djordje Petrovic into a save with his legs.

Dominik Szoboszlai also came close from a 25-yard free-kick, his dipping effort narrowly missing the target.

The result lifts Liverpool to sixth place with nine points from six matches, while Bournemouth remain 17th with three points from five games.

The Cherries will now use the international break to regroup as they continue their search for a first league win of the season.
