Lions Clubs Donate Cleaning Materials To Gwarimpa General Hospital

The Wuse Abuja Lions Club, in collaboration with the Abuja Achievers and Gwarimpa Abuja Lions Clubs, has donated cleaning materials to Gwarimpa General Hospital, Abuja.

The materials include mops, hypo disinfectants, wipers, toilet papers and other cleaning items.
They were presented to the hospital during an environmental sanitation exercise.

The donation is part of the clubs’ efforts to promote environmental sanitation and improve healthcare facilities.

Members of the three Lions clubs also cleaned the hospital premises, including wards and other facilities to raise awareness about the importance of environmental hygiene in healthcare institutions.

During the exercise, the president of Wuse Abuja Lions Club, Victor Simeon, said the initiative was aimed at supporting the hospital in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for patients, staff members and visitors.

Simeon said Lions Clubs International remained committed to humanitarian service and had carried out various interventions aimed at improving the lives of individuals and communities.

“We are here for environmental sanitation in Gwarimpa General Hospital. We want to support in the cleaning of the hospital to make sure the hospital is in top-notch cleanliness.

“Lions Clubs International is a humanitarian service organisation. We have gone to many places to affect and impact our communities. It is not only Gwarimpa Hospital.

“We have in the past gone to other hospitals and villages. Sometimes we feed the hungry, conduct cataract operations for less privileged people and provide care. We have done a lot of things as Lions to help the less privileged and impact our communities,” he said.

Simeon said the club would extend similar interventions to other hospitals and communities requiring support.

Also speaking, the president of Gwarimpa Abuja Lions Club, Lion Juliet Apkasubi, described the exercise as part of the organisation’s humanitarian responsibility to put smiles on the faces of people in need.

Apkasubi commended the collaboration among the three Lions Clubs, saying they remained committed to reaching out to communities through various humanitarian programmes.

“We are here to impact lives. What we do as Lions is to give humanitarian services. We put smiles on people’s faces and ensure we reach out to the world, making sure people are happy,” she said.

She called on the government to partner with humanitarian organisations such as the Lions Clubs to enable them extend their interventions to more people and communities.

Apkasubi said the club had also implemented programmes addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, including feeding initiatives and childhood cancer interventions.

On his part, the president of Achievers Abuja Lions Club, Uwakolam Godwin Chukwudi, said the visit was also aimed at creating awareness about the importance of environmental hygiene in healthcare facilities.

Chukwudi said maintaining clean hospital environments, particularly toilets and other facilities, was essential to protecting the health of patients, staff and visitors.

“Our major message today is that people should take their health as a very important aspect of their everyday life. We are engaging in awareness, cleaning activities and educating the hospital that even as they go about their clinical activities, the cleanliness of the environment is also very important,” he said.

He said the Lions Clubs remained committed to supporting people in need, stressing that their activities were guided by the principle that “wherever there is a need, there is a Lion.”

Chukwudi disclosed that the donated materials were purchased through contributions from members despite the economic challenges in the country.

“Everything you see here came out of individual pockets to make sure that today is a success. You know the state of the country at the moment; it is very difficult to make do with the few resources that you have,” he said.

“The three clubs involved in today’s Environmental Sanitation service project for today are Wuse Abuja Lions Club, Abuja Achievers Lions Club, Gwarimpa Abuja Lions Club respectively,” he added.
