Sultan Asks FG To Equip NIS With Modern Technology

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the federal government to equip the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) with modern technology for efficient migration and border management.

The Sultan made the call when participants of the 14th Staff Course of the Nigeria Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto, visited him at his palace yesterday in Sokoto.

“We need to really have equipment to control our borders efficiently,” he said.

He decried the persistent insecurity and the loss of personnel at duty posts, stressing that officers should not lose their lives while securing the nation’s borders.

“You are going there to help the country, to secure your borders, not to lose your lives,” he said.

The monarch warned officers against abuse of uniform and charged them to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He urged them to always do the right thing while carrying out their responsibilities.

Earlier, the acting commandant of the Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto, Musa Ismael Chonoko, said the visit was in keeping with the college’s tradition during its staff course.

He said the 14th Command Course is themed “Smart Borders: Leveraging Technology for Efficient Migration Control and Border Management” and has 76 participants comprising eight comptrollers and 68 deputy comptrollers.

Chonoko commended the Sultan for his support and guidance to the NIS and for promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the country.
