Managing director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board (NUDB), Engr Mohammed Wada Yahaya, has been suspended indefinitely and without pay over destruction of political parties and candidates billboards across the state.
LEADERSHIP Friday reports that there have been several complaints from candidates across political parties against the activities of Engr Yahaya at NUBD.
But in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barr Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu with reference number: S/SSG/PARA/7/VOL.TV/58, titled, “Suspension without pay,” the government directed that Engr Yahaya should handover the running of NUBD to the most senior officer with immediate effect.
The letter reads in part, “The attention of the Nasarawa State Government has been drawn to a series of complaints regarding the indiscriminate destruction of Billboards erected by politicians and their supporters; for the purpose of canvassing for votes in the 2023 general elections, inclusive of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC).
“The action by the NUDB under your supervision was undertaken without recourse for permission from constituted authority. Furthermore, it depicts insensitivity on the need to conduct the elections under an atmosphere free from acrimony and rancour.
“Consequently, the executive governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has granted approval that you should proceed on indefinite suspension without pay due to the fact that the unwarranted destruction of the Billboards was tantamount to negligence, insubordination and misconduct.”
“In the interim, upon the receipt of this letter, you are to strictly comply pending further thorough investigation. You are, therefore, directed to handover the affairs of the agency to the most senior Director with immediate effect, please.”
