Katsina Traders Reject Old Naira Notes

Less than eight days to the full implementation of the new redesigned naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), some traders in Katsina State have begun to refuse transactions with the old notes.

Investigations by LEADERSHIP revealed that some people in the state are complaining about this development before the 31st of January announced by the CBN as the deadline to use it as legal tender.

Umar Sani, who sells soft drinks in Katsina metropolitan, said he stopped collecting the old currency because he doesn’t want to lose the little profit he is making, especially since goods and services are consistently rising every day.

He lamented that CBN is enforcing the new notes and still allows people to withdraw the same old notes from the Automated Teller Machines (ATM). Sani added that refusing the old notes will help him beat CBN deadline.
