The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang responsible for a deadly robbery attack at Wofun Olodo area of Ibadan, during which a 44-year-old woman, Mrs. Wahab Rukayat, was killed and other victims sustained serious injuries.
The incident occurred on 4 August 2026 at about 0230hrs, when armed robbers attacked the residence of one Alhaji Olatokunbo, at Wofun Olodo Area of Ibadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who diclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Ibadan, said in the course of the attack, the suspected armed robbers killed his wife, Mrs. Wahab Rukayat, 44 years, while other occupants of the residence sustained serious injuries.
He added that the robbers also carted away several mobile phones, wristwatches, $400 US dollars, and other valuables estimated at approximately ₦3.493 million, all at gunpoint.
Following the report and the need to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack, he said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga directed that the case be transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Command for further investigation and the apprehension of those responsible.
In compliance with the directive, he said the VCRU commenced an intelligence-led investigation, saying “Through sustained intelligence gathering and the strategic leverage of technology, operatives developed credible leads which culminated in a targeted operation.
Consequently, on 2 October 2026 at about 2100hrs, acting on credible intelligence generated through painstaking investigation and aided by technology, operatives were led to a suspected criminal hideout in the Sabo area of Ibadan, where three suspects were arrested.
He said the suspects were Akinrinola Oluwatobi, male, 28 years; Okunola Mathew, male, 24 years; and Ibrahim Rabiu, male, 23 years.
He added that one iPhone 7 Plus, belonging to one of the victims of the Wofun Olodo robbery attack, was recovered from the suspects.
“As part of the preliminary investigation, an identification parade was conducted, during which the surviving victims were able to identify the arrested suspects among other persons presented at the parade as members of the armed robbery gang that attacked the residence on 4 August 2026.
“The suspects also confessed to their involvement and various roles played in the said robbery operation, stating that they participated in the attack, carted away valuables worth approximately ₦3.493 million, and killed the deceased woman in the course of the operation.
“They further confessed to their involvement in several other robbery incidents perpetrated around the Wofun Olodo and Akobo areas of Ibadan, providing additional leads to the investigation,” he said.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police has directed the VCRU and other relevant units of the Command to intensify efforts towards apprehending other members of the gang who are still at large, as well as persons suspected to be involved in receiving or disposing of proceeds of their criminal activities.
He assured members of the public that the command would continue to deploy intelligence, technology, professional investigation and community partnership in the fight against violent crime across the state.
He urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police, as such information remains critical to the prevention, detection and investigation of crime.
