Taraba State governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has directed security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible for the killing of residents of Binnari community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
The directive followed an attack by armed men on the community on Friday, which reportedly claimed the lives of several residents.
Kefas, who condemned the attack, urged security agencies to take urgent measures to restore calm, protect lives and property, and ensure that those behind the killings are brought to justice.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, the governor described the incident as unfortunate and stressed that no effort should be spared in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
He said everyone involved in the attack must be held accountable under the law, irrespective of their status or position in society.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring lasting peace in Karim Lamido.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe return of displaced persons to their communities and rebuild confidence among residents affected by previous crises.
As part of the peacebuilding efforts, Kefas recently approved N1 billion for the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management to address the aftermath of previous crises and support initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability in Karim Lamido.
The governor sympathised with the families of those killed, prayed for the repose of their souls and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
He assured residents that those responsible for the attack would face justice.
